Welcome, Executive Council Members!

Please join us in welcoming the incoming executive Directorsl for 2020-2021!  This is the first year that KHealth will be lead by 4  Co-Executives Directors, representing all four programs of the Faculty of Health Science at Queens University (Nursing, Medicine, Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy). This team will be responsible for the overall direction and vision of improving the health and wellbeing of the Kingston Community (through fundraisers, senior support, local volunteering and food drives) while cultivating meaningful relationships with community partners and the Queens student body. Here is what each member has to say about why they’ve chosen to become a part of KHealth:

“As a nursing student, I have always been passionate about caring for the most vulnerable individuals so joining a group like KHealth was the perfect fit for me! In addition to our vision to provide community support, working for this initiative has allowed me to collaborate with students of other healthcare disciplines to reach a collective goal. I was drawn to this interdisciplinary approach as there are few student organizations that follow this model. It allows us to maintain a truly holistic method towards our initiatives since we gain a perspective from students in nursing, medicine, OT, and PT. I look forward to continuing to advance our club over this upcoming year!”

“I decided to join the KHealth executive because I saw how quickly they mobilized to create the Student-run Community Support program, which delivers groceries and/or calls individuals in the Kingston community who feel vulnerable due to COVID-19. This inspired me to consider what initiatives I could create to help people and led me to join the executive council to execute my plans”. Additionally, Meagan is passionate about teaching and mentoring, and looks forward to exploring the idea of collaborating with existing tutoring services offered at Queens.

“Having worked for several years as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team, I truly appreciate initiatives that are designed to promote collaboration and understanding across health professions. Getting the opportunity to work alongside likeminded students who are all committed to the vision of improving the health of Kingston’s equity-seeking populations has been a treat thus far. KHealth has the potential to do great things for the community, and I am excited to be a part of their journey! “

“ I chose to join KHealth, because I was attracted to its vision of interprofessionalism with community health at its core. As future clinicians, working with other professions is vital in client-centred care. I found that we are given only a few opportunities in our curriculum for interprofessionalism (i.e. interacting with other professions mostly during placements only) and KHealth certainly fills this gap.”  Grace is passionate about studying the ecological determinants of health and how they can affect health equity and outcomes during today’s climate crisis relative to how they intersect with race and gender.
