Community Spotlight: Martha’s Table
During challenging times such as these, the stability of a community is made stronger through the unsung efforts of organizations that step up and make a difference. For over 20 years, Martha’s Table has been a staple in downtown Kingston, providing a caring place where people in need can have a nutritious meal and find social support through a community of friends and volunteers. Martha’s Table has committed to providing Kingston’s less fortunate with restaurant quality food, serving breakfast and lunch at no cost to the patrons, and a three-course dinner menu for $1.00 (a price that has not risen since opening their doors in 1997).
Beyond providing nutritious meals, Martha’s table is as a welcoming environment where patrons are treated with dignity and respect, and even encouraged to empower themselves by participating in their many workshops including art classes, music lessons and more recently the addition of computer and technology integration. It is important to note that none of this goodwill would be possible without the help of its many volunteers that assist with daily operations of cooking and servicing the dining room, as well as the charitable donations from local business partners within the greater Kingston community.
